I got it to get back in touch with my Greek as I had begun to forget it, and was so pleased that I also ordered the Japanese version! The book itself is tiny, fits in the coat pocket. Great for passing the time on the subway

We are bilingual family Czech/English, This is a useful booklet, but to a Czech person in Prague the pronunciation guide is hard to understand, I am Czech and couldn't understand son's question using the pronunciation guide, I had no idea what he was trying to say. This Greek phrasebook has good up-to-date coverage of everyday requirements. Based on my limited knowledge of Greek practice, it seems pretty accurate. The book uses the familiar, rather than the polite, forms of address and verb usage. That has become conventional in among youth in the European countries whose languages I am more familiar with. Older people in most countries typically expect polite forms (especially from people their own age) but for young travelers I suspect Lonely Planet made a good choice.There is at least one howler I found. The Greek for the English phrase "Can you talk more slowly?" (pio siga) was translated in the book as "Can you talk later?" (argotera) which might be interpreted as a pickup line with potentially hilarious results if the coupling is perceived as odd by either party.It was a good choice, lightweight and pocket size but chock full of information.

It won't teach you the language, but it will help you get by. Used it frequently, and regretted it when I failed to bring it. I might suggest they include a one or two page tear out, to make it easier to bring just the "survival" phrases with you. Czech is a difficult language, and outside the tourist centers we ran into a number of "non-English" speakers and menus.

The book is well written, good context and pronunciations. How ever the print is too small for my eyes.

It was helpful to have on our trip. It has the Greek alphabet so you can learn to read some signs and things like menus and it shows words in actual Greek as well as in English pronunciation.

My sons love Tumtum and Nutmeg so much that we have read each book 2-3 times in just 9 months! My sons are 5 & 8 if that helps you to know. We have given these books as birthday gifts too, and they are much loved! The stories are about two mice that go on adventures and the characters are so funny at times, my sons are always laughing! This is an EXCELLENT read aloud book as the storyline flows well and the conversation is written perfectly for reading aloud. I highly recommend this whole series of books by this author. She has a wonderful talent in telling stories that engage children and adults!

This book is a big one with several stories within. Don't let the size discourage that reluctant reader! I loved the cute fun and innocence of the book. There are a lot of dark themed books out there. This is a nice refreshing change. It is full of adventure and there is a lot of great play on words. This is a great book for any advanced 2-3 graders but also a great book for on grade level 4 th graders too.

Our family loves Tumtum and Nutmeg! The books are adventurous and exciting. They are quite funny with the situations that General Marchmouse gets into! My father is retired military and we think of him when we read what trouble he is stirring up! I think that this a great series of books to read to a child (mine are 10, 7 and 5) we laugh and and are in suspense as the pages fly by! I have sent this book to my mom who lives with her General Marchmouse and she read the stories to my nieces and nephew!

This is a fun story and have more of their adventures---great for the older kids, as well as adults who still enjoy reading to their children and grand children---hope to read these to my great grandbabies as well---As with my experience with Amazon dealers the book arrived in new condition, clean and prompted service that is greatly appreciated in this day and age ......its great to see and experience this kind of personal service attention--Thanks!!

We have read over a dozen times out loud and daughter has read at least 15 times on her own. Simply flawless. The most fun to read aloud. Wonderful starter book for reading chapter books with kids. No weird things, just good old fashion fun and story line with adorable mice and you get to read with a British accent. Bloody good fun!

Cute story! I'm a school librarian and I've read this to 3-7 year olds and they all enjoy it. It's a great way to introduce little kids to parts of the book as all the characters "disappear" into the spine and then reappear after following the instructions to turn the book and shake.

This was a quick read but my daughter’s kindergarten class loved it when I read it as mystery guest reader.

SPOILER ALERT (well it's a spoiler if you haven't read what the Bible says about Jael - I don't give lots of details though)On the whole this was a wonderful book - well-written, engaging, thoroughly enjoyable. I thought it was going to be a 5-star review for it... until I reached the part that actually corresponded with scripture.Let me be fair and say Burton had reasons for how she wrote the story and her logic was solid enough that I plan to read at least one more of her books before deciding whether she's an author I'll read more of. From her perspective she felt Judges 4 and 5 accounts of Jael were inconsistent. I can understand why she felt that way, but personally - since I believe in the inerrancy of the Word - if I read something that seemed contradictory I would assume there was something *I* was not understanding, not that there was an error in the word. I would have respected her more as a writer if she'd accepted the challenge and found a way to write a story that made BOTH accounts of Jael fit. And personally I think the Judges 4 account of the killing actually fit with the character of Jael as she'd written her.The other thing that just hit me funky was the whole "spirit of the tigress" bit. As a believer I want only one spirit operating - the HOLY Spirit. I know it's simply a way of speaking that she's using and it didn't make me hate the book by any means, but honestly it did detract for me.All that said there were MANY details about the book I thoroughly enjoyed! I loved the relationships between the woman, the way Burton painted the scenes, how Jael's heart was drawn to Yahweh-Shalom, the interactions between Jael and Levi... all wonderful! Eager to start on Women of the Bible: Deborah's Story: A Novel: Deborah's Story: A Novel tonight :)

I enjoyed this story.It was nice to get a perspective on one of the little known women of the Bible. I always enjoy historical fiction and I liked the way this author placed her research into the novels to make it believable and give insight to the ways and culture of the day. The story itself was engaging and I didn't want to put it down. Makes me thankful for the circumstances I find myself in today instead of having to live back then. God's plan for all of us is perfect. Really liked the take this writer had on the story. Makes a lot more sense than some accounts I"ve heard. I like that she also writes to the reader after the story giving background on why she wrote as she did. Nice job Ann.

This is an interesting story about Jael and her cruel husband who also had 2 wives and 2 concubines. These 3 ladies were like sisters who work togwther and support one another when their husband was not around. When the general Sisera lost the war and fled from the battle, she gave him milk to drink and then killed him with a hammer and a tent peg. This was an interesting story.

Now here's a biblical character you don't hear much about. Ann Burton did a good job in bringing Jael's story to life. However, more about Jael's familial background or more complexity of her character would have enhanced the story. But, I still enjoyed the book as it was, and I will purchased more books by Ann Burton.

This author is not the best I have read, however, I enjoy reading so yes, this book is a great enjoyment for me, thank you.

Finally some one is writing the stories of the women id the Bible. For too long they have been pushed to the back or barely mentioned as though they are a shame for the men to acknowledge. An excellent book and hopefully there will be more about the women in the future.

Well researched. It is fiction and we have no idea if it really happened that way but it helped bring that period of the Old Testament to life because of her research.

What a wonderful way the author has chosen to tell the story of what the life of Jael might have been like. As always, this was another immensely enjoyable book by this author.

As we all suffer from sitting, loss of full range of motion and movement is lost.This book teaches you about movement again, not just for sports (which is primarily why I got the book) but for life.Great information and teaching.

i am a user since 2007, when i first met the newly accredited DPT, Kelly Starrett. His ideas and ability to communicate to people at that time were yet to discovered. BUT even at that time, his understanding of a lecture given on the shoulder and how it works gave everyone in the room the ability to understand how it works, and what happens when it doesn’t. This is quite important for a book about water sports, as being a waterman you require the shoulder to be the catalyst of importance w/ regards to joints.
