With the advent of the new year and trying to follow resolutions to lose weight and eat healthy, I got the Clean Cuisine cookbook by Ivy and Andy Larson to reach these goals. The recipes are anti-inflammatory and delicious; the pictures of the foods are beautiful; and best of all, every entry uses the healthiest ingredients. Lowering inflammation is important to good health, and this cookbook includes recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks that help heal our bodies.I've tried several of the recipes-Oven-Style Barbecue Chicken, Honey Mustard Sheet Pan Chicken Dinner, Shrimp and Grits, and for breakfast, the Baked Oatmeal with Wild Blueberries and Crunchy Almond Topping-all were delicious!I sent this cookbook to my sister who was diagnosed with an auto-immune liver disease in hopes that these anti-inflammatory recipes will help her. Thank you to Ivy, Andy and Gail Ingram for a perfectly beautiful, health inducing cookbook which is important for everyone, but especially for those who have health issues.
I've followed Ivy and her husband for about 3 years now and was hoping that this recipe book would be mostly new recipes that she has never published before. Unfortunately, many of them have been included in her 8 week challenge and on her website. I LOVE her recipes and the Clean Cuisine way, but I'm disappointed that many of the recipes in this cookbook are duplicates from other sources she has provided in the past.
I have been thoroughly enjoying this book it is loaded with great recipes. As my husband and I get older we are noticing inflammation in our joints and are trying to modify our way of eating to a more healthy, anti inflammatory diet. My husband is a super picky eater, that makes things quite challenging when it comes to meal prep. Major win that he loved the oven style barbecue chicken with the homemade barbecue sauce recipe from the book, it is delicious you will not be missing a store bought bottle with this recipe. What I like about Ivy's approach is she includes a lot of recipes with meat. My husband is only a meat eater there is no way that I will get him to a Vegan or Vegetarian mindset. Since he loves baked beans I did make Ivy's recipe for baked beans with the Barbecue chicken and he loved them...they were delicious, more work than opening can for sure but so much better making it worth the effort. I will double the next recipe and freeze containers to make it easier to just grab a side of beans with a hamburger or chicken dinner. The Thanksgiving day green bean casserole is a lot of work, again not just dumping toxic cans of ingredients in a dish and the flavors and feeling you have after eating this casserole is well worth the effort. I am not bloated after eating Ivy's recipes, I feel my inflammation is going down the more I incorporate her way of eating into my daily life. Some of the recipes are super easy and just things you have on hand, some recipes once you get going you see certain staples you will need for Ivy's way of cooking, before you know it you are prepared to make anything with basic ingredients on hand, dates, cashews, avocadoes, cassava flour etc. I cannot wait till summer there are a ton of drinks I want to try out especially a watermelon lime drink, for now I have only tried the hot cinnamon Apple no milk shake, I just love that one. For treats I loved the pumpkin custard, as pumpkin is one of my favorite flavors served it for a family gathering, received positive feedback from the pumpkin lover group. I have also made the brownies, shockingly my husband loves them, super easy to make and great texture and taste. I cannot wait to make the chocolate covered frozen bananas, waiting for a little warmer weather to make them. I truly feel like this book speaks to every eater. I am trying to make one to two recipes a week from the cookbook, so far I have had great success with Ivy's recipes and have adopted her alternative ingredients into my everyday cooking. Thank you Ivy for such a well balanced flavorful collection of recipes.
This cookbook is well written with beautiful photos of foods that makes you just want to cook and eat...I have been trying for a couple of years to eat "clean" and although I keep trying, I am not 100%...but reading Ivy and Andy's book has motivated me to try my best to eat clean and feel better in 2019. Thanks again Ivy and Andy for writing such a beautiful book.
Great book, glad bought it. Someone who has used the information and it’s made a difference in her life.
Great cookbook. Has the type of recipes I prefer.
Wonderful cookbook, highly recommend!
This cookbook is one the the most beautiful cookbooks I've ever seen. The photographs are an excellent representation of each recipe but before I get into that, I wanted to comment on the opening section of the book. If you have never seen "Clean Eating" before, the explanation is very helpful and clear. Ivy Larson's personal story will explain to you why she started on this journey years ago after getting a devastating diagnosis. Also, if you are interested in gluten-free eating, this is the book for you. Each recipe is gluten free but there is a lot more to this book than just being gluten free.Take the time to read the first chapters and after that you will have a better understanding of the book's goal. Eating "Clean" can change your life and health. You will learn how to set up and stock your kitchen. You will also understand what makes up a "clean" meal, and how to fit all the parts together for better health. The recipes are organized in an easy-to-follow style so you will be able to find exactly what you are looking for in order to have that perfect "clean" meal you may never have known you needed or wanted. A special treat is the chapter on Juices, Elixirs, and Cocktails which you may not have expected in a fun and lovely cookbook like this.
