This book is about Ancient History of Egypt throughout enriching the knowledge for any reader, then it contains amazing full color, high detailed, photographs/pictures about Egypt, a civilization located at ancient Northeastern Africa, concentrated along the lower reaches of the Nile River in what is now the modern country of Egypt.This ancient history has shown that the first pharaoh of Egypt, Memes, united the Upper and Lower parts of Egypt into a single civilization. Ancient Egypt was grouped into three major kingdoms called the Old Kingdom, the Middle Kingdom and the New Kingdom. During the Old Kingdom, many pyramids were built; during the Middle Kingdom, Egypt was ruled by a single government and Pharaoh; and, during the New Kingdom, was the Golden Age of this civilization. Writing was one great achievement among many others by the Ancient Egypt civilization.As this book has beautiful, full colored, high detailed, photographs/pictures you may want to share with your kids and/or students as they can serve as point for further discussions or a way to develop language skill by promoting the children to express themselves about what they see and understand by looking at the photograph or picture.

The book 3rd Grade History: The Egyptian Civilization is a book with young readers in mind. While I have become a big fan of the Baby Professor books, this one was disappointing. It was very dry and I saw my son getting bored as we were going through it. He just went through a small unit in school about the Egyptian civilization so I thought this would be a fun way to supplement what he had learned since he loved so much. All I can say dull, dull, dull. A lot of talk about dates - the only interesting thing written was talk of ONE of their important inventions, which my son already knew. The ending was abrupt, I don't care for how these books end. I usually do recommend the Baby Professor books, but I think there are probably a world of better books to discuss Egyptian civilization if your kid has the interest. For free, it was ok. I would never buy this book though. I received the opportunity to read this book at a discount in exchange for my fair and honest review. The discount did not sway my opinion.

A great book for children to learn about The Egyptian Civilization. This books is full of wonderful pictures. I love the close up pictures of the writing and the pictures of the land and pyramids. It adds a great mixture to learning about Egypt. This book made it possible to start other conversations with my children. We talked about pharaohs and a sphinx. We ooohed and ahhhed at the picture of the old, middle and new kingdom. The pictures were beautiful and really added a wonderful touch to this book. Some may complain that it was too short, but I think it is the perfect length in order to keep your child interested. I do wish that it included a nice description of the date and what it means. Maybe add in how long ago it was from now to then. There is so much to learn about the ancient Egypt civilization that I would suggest this book as an introduction. There will definitely be more questions your child has, like my children did.My son really liked this book, he wanted to see a mummy and now I am pretty sure he will show more interest at the museums we attend in the spring, summer and fall. My daughter is only two years old, but she wanted to read the book with me as well. She loved the pictures, I told her how they loved cats and she said she did too. So now her and ancient Egypt have something in common and she is happy to learn more about it.I am going over the book again now and I feel like many of the facts could have been expanded. Like the writing that was invented, it would have been nice to see a little more on that. Plus the book just ends, I feel like there should be an ending, a smooth exit for the book to end but it felt abrupt. Like, oh okay we are done reading now I guess. There is so much that can be discussed with ancient Egypt and this book could have been better. The pictures were by far the best part.I would like a book with an explanation of what the dates mean. More information on Pharaohs, and the writing. How the pyramids were built, why they were built. What the religion was like, what the food was like. How was everyday life? What were the foods? Maybe a map to show Egypt, third grade should have a basic knowledge of where countries are. This was too short and with information that seemed tedious and boring without explanation.I received this book at a discount for my honest and unbiased opinion.

The book is sure a good buy, sumamrizes many important steps of network design approach, recaps on important technical topics in clear way, and provides a companion website with useful checklist.Some things I would have liked to see in the book but were not there:- migration/upgrade techniques: it might have been beneficial to lokk at situations where the basis is an existing network, though the approach may be similar- more examples of IP networks design: only 2 were reported to illustrate a campus and a enterprise edge design.To this regard I suggest the older but still good Large-scale IP networks, which include 3-4 large scale network designs.Overall anyway is definitely a very good book.

I was making the mistake of jumping straight into the fun of topology drawings and selecting devices, without even analyzing the business goals in-depth to begin with."Top-Down Network Design" taught me why it is important to start the design process from layer 8 (user) down, while constantly reminding that design is an iterative process.Most importantly, the book includes what you need to know on how to effectively communicate your design to higher executives.

Jeremy Brown has written an intelligent, engaging and very well-written book about an issue that is both historic and (alarmingly) contemporary. He has a very easy writing style, with occasional irreverently humorous comments. (Little has changed since I taught him in HIgh School some 40 years ago.... the cleverest student I ever had.). Most of all, he has a great curiosity about the world, which shows through clearly in this book, and - a rare, precious quality for a writer - communicates itself to the reader, who is drawn into the topic. If you enjoy medical / scientific/ sociological ‘whodunnits’, you will love this book - a great read, and a great gift!It should be mentioned that he is an amazingly diverse polymath, who glides from arcane subject (Emergency Medicine, Medieval science, the history of ideas, obscure rabbinic texts) to arcane subject. Keep writing, please - the best is yet to come!

Provides a good concise history of the influenza Pandemic of 1918 and ties it into the common issues facing today with clinic. Interesting take on vaccines, antiviral therapy and controversy with the Tamilflu. Good up to date info.

Most people are aware of the epidemic of Spanish flu that killed millions worldwide in 1918. Now a hundred years have passed, and the best information we have, according to research physician Jerry Brown, indicates that we are not much closer to finding a cure for the flu, or predicting and coping with a massive outbreak, than we were a century ago.Beginning with a harrowing story of a modern flu victim to illustrate how devastating “just the flu” can still be, Brown then takes us back to 1918, when two wars were being waged: World War I and the fight against the flu. The latter was especially significant since conditions for the disease’s spread were ideal: the virus needs live cells to do its dirty work, and to find live cells it needs crowds. Those in uniform in crowded barracks were susceptible, along with the poor, crammed into tenements with many family members occupying a tiny space. Add to that the virus’s “shapeshifting” capabilities, which explain why we may get the flu more than once in a season (usually, Brown says, a winter period of low to no sunlight).In 1918, people, including medical providers, relied on ineffective or fatal remedies such as bloodletting, gas inhalation and overdosing on aspirin. A disturbing chart offered by Brown depicts the average life expectancy in 1918 --- around 40 --- as compared to the pre-1918 flu rate of 55 and the gradual rise to 70 by 1960.Yet, as Brown points out, some survive the flu. But despite studies that have included such extremes as digging up the frozen bodies of flu victims in Alaska and elsewhere, little is known about how to stop the virus from jumping off birds and swine and hopping onto people. It still kills about 30,000 Americans each year.Brown, the Director of Emergency Care Research at the National Institutes of Health, avers that there is still no drug that eradicates the virus, and added to the problem are anti-viral drugs that are efficacious at creating controversy, as none seems to work, or to work every year, or in all cases. This book is so much fun! My wife and I have purchased several coloring books, but they all feel like we are always coloring the same thing over and over. We love this book because of the great art and how different it is from anything else. The fact that it is a hard cover makes it easier to color anywhere we go. The paper is good quality and we use gel coloring pens because they pop beautifully. I seriously recommend this book to anyone looking to break away from the mold and try something more creative.

This book surprise me so much. Its a hardback cover with a nice thick quality paper with many tons of incredible street art. I already own the Wynwood Coloring Book 1 & 2 and was blown away by the quality of their books. I highly recommend these books as the quality is outstanding and the artwork is extremely detailed.

I just finished Nomi's book, Collusion. I worked for The Federal Reserve in various departments throughout my life, including payment processing, Treasury Direct, and as a bank holding company examiner. I do not mean to be histrionic here. I do not personally know Nomi. This is the most important book I've read in a decade. Take my advice just this once - get Collusion, and read it. And thanks, Nomi, for your bravery.

First and foremost, this is one of the better books I've read, especially on the banking system. Nomi Prins doesn't sensationalize or create fear porn. This entire volume is written very practically. I will warn readers up front that there is a lot of banking and financial terminology and acronyms. There's a glossary to help but it may be a bit of a challenge if you are completely unfamiliar with the banking system.Rather than offer a summary, I'm going to offer a couple of quotes directly from the book that do well presenting the overall theme:- "By conjuring money, the Fed had begun something it couldn't stop." - p. 223- "Nowhere in any of this did the plight of ordinary citizens meaningfully feature in the discussion." - p. 224- "This coddling of the oppressors depicted the illogic of a situation that hurt all those involved to some degree - except the central bankers themselves. It was the central banking establishment that had no real allegiance to voters and that remained virtually untouchable." - p. 242Basically, in 2007/2008, a fiscal crisis erupted, with the epicenter being the United States. This crisis was in part caused by the deregulation of the banking industry during the Clinton Administration, including the repeal of the Glass-Steigal act. Though many who have been following the system are aware of that, Prins gets into detail of why this is true. It lead to out of control "betting" utilizing people's deposits. This "betting" included subprime loans, derivative markets (including derivatives from toxic assets), and so on. When it all came to a head, the bankers went to governments to bail them out. And they did. And the banks made out big time but Main Street did not. And then central banks pushed money conjuring (QE) for a trickle down effect. It didn't work. Banks hoarded it and bet on more derivatives. So the central banks keep doing the same thing and have for about a decade with the same effect.The author does a great job in presenting the elitism of the central bankers, the revolving door between banking positions and government positions, the fact that the bankers are less and less accountable to governments and that governments are more and more held hostage by those bankers. This book should be on the reading list for every college student out there, but it won't be.Political Trigger Warning: The author does not speak highly of any American administration, whether it be Bush, Obama, or Trump. So if you are in love with any of these presidents, you will be triggered.

This is a superb study on high finance. It shows in great detail how the world's central bankers have been colluding to prop up the world economy with easy money over the last 10 years. She makes a convincing argument that this strategy has failed to do anything but protect the interests of the super-rich. Reformists and revolutionaries alike will find this book a gold mine of information in their battle against a system everywhere dominated by international capital. Since their community is so large now, I would urge conspiracy theorists to take the the time, open their minds, and carefully study this book. Here you will learn of a true world conspiracy run in plain sight by nervous experts on the basis of shaky, discredited economic theory. Because this well-researched book so thoroughly exposes the prevailing neoliberal intellectual framework and despite the author's eminent credentials, it is being informally blacklisted by the mainstream media. But I don't care. This is one of the few books that I will re-read several times.

Prins in a just world could easily receive the Nobel Prize for economics . The secret world of Central Banks has a profound effect on how we all survive in this money driven planet . Japan , Europe and the US Central Banks are all in collusion offering the big banks ZIR-Ps , zero interest rate policies while the masses have to settle for convience store sleerpies! The bright side of the story has been how China and other developing countries have been able to challenge the trickle down approach to finance , investing in infrastructure and other social investments. On the other hand with the Fed trillions go to lining the pockets of our big banks while the finance sector pays little attention to the needs of the public.For anyone interested in economics , this is the key piece of the global puzzle. In a just world the Quantitative Easing might be how we ease Climate Change , a strategy environmental groups might consider . Thank you Nomi Prins for your research and moral strength.

A dire explanation by a woman who is exceptionally well qualified to know her topic and who writes clearly about it.

This book gives an impressive timeline of global central bank intervention that reaches the height of an academic dissertation. Although the sitings of central bank involvement in seemingly necessary activities gets a bit tedious at times, they do give the author great credibility in her contention and can only point to what she's attempting to illustrate-- Collusion (and, yes, that's with a capital "C"). Two thumbs up-- and extra credit for truthfulness!

This book is very informative and well written with acronyms and abbreviations explained as you read each sentence. There is even a glossary in the back to explain terms. This book is not a FAST read, but easily digestible for any student who wishes to understand the financial working and crisis of present times.. This book puts the reader into the drivers seat of knowledge and understanding of the interconnecting world of international finance and your place in it. Well done, Nomi.

The blocks are often done by many different stitchers and contain symbols that are representative of our culture, both past and present. All the patterns in the book are from the Happiness is in the Journey quilt, one of the quilts from the Houston Special Exhibit. They are sized at 8x8 finished. There is an enlargement chart for those of you who would like to work in a larger size format. You will find wonderful photos and illustrations for various applique techniques from beginning basics to such techniques as weaving fabric for baskets and creating dimensional flowers. Art materials covered include: threads, fabric manipulation, beads and acrylic paints and inks. I also liked the instruction on creating a dog tooth border. The quilts at the 2010 Houston Special Exhibit started from a grain of an idea Elly had in the middle of the night. Over the course of 3 years (2007-2010), 245 volunteers from 36 states and 5 countries created 12 Baltimore Album quilts. The twelve quilts plus an additional 28 quilts from around the world made up the 2010 Houston Special Exhibit. The block makers names are listed along with a map of the quilt to help the reader locate the specific block in the photo of the quilt. I am sure there are names you will recognize. Where do I even start? This book is wonderful just to look at. The quilts, blocks, and fabrics, just beautiful! It is so comprehensive. The wealth of knowledge Elly has compiled into this 127 page book is unbelievable. There are so many great techniques including painting techniques, embroidery, silhouette portraits, stencil shading, beading, calligraphy, and on. OMG!There are 25 block patterns to make a 68"X68" gorgeous quilt called "Happiness Is in the Journey". Each block pattern includes the Symbolism of the block and Pattern Notes that include page numbers to needed techniques earlier in the book.This book is a treasure. Elly's knowledge of everything Baltimore Album is immense and we are very fortunate to have her in Quilt World.

After looking at the blocks and quilts featured in this book, I decided that the Baltimore style is generally too ornate for my taste. However, the book includes lots of great tips for creating fine hand applique, including how to deal with trouble spots like sharp inside corners. There is an entire chapter with many interesting embellishments. So I will use the information in this book on the quilt I decided to make even though it won't be a Baltimore. I also enjoyed the history and seeing how the blocks made by so many different hands came together into lovely, cohesive quilts.

This book is amazing. I have been looking for a book on Baltimore blocks for years. This one not only contains an excellent variety of blocks but also very good directions on how to do the more intricate bits of stitching and turning. Not for the beginner but for someone who has done at least some appliqué stitching. Reading the book and looking at some of the amazing examples it really gives you inspiration to take flight and make each block how you want it to look, not how someone else dictates. Highly recommend and worth every cent!

These applique designs are absolutely gorgeous. The instructions are well written and easy to understand. I am starting my first Baltimore Album quilt with them.

I wanted a more basic book. Many of the patterns in this one have techniques that are more advanced, and while they are well explained and I could do them, I was more interested in less "exotic" applique. The rating is more about my wants than the quality of the book, which is very good.

The designs are great and the instructions are very clear. Simple techniques are given to transfer the patterns to cloth to begin each block. It takes the quilter step by step to create a beautiful block and if you wish a quilt of these.

Beaultful colored photos of quilts. This book gives you the basics of appliquie then goes on to show the art and embellishments that made this quilts so beautiful. Along with the many classic patterns the author also tells the history and the symbolism that made these quilts so unique. Another great book by Elly Sienkiewicz.

Easy to follow directions and photos for all levels. Beautiful photos of many Baltimore Album quilts.
