I ordered two stranger danger books for my two grandsons, after reading reviews. I do not want it to be too scary. I have not read this one, I have to say. I sent them to my son and asked him to make sure they were suitable. He approved both books. When I next visited, the eight year old had this book up by his bed, so I knew he liked it.

This was one of the most precise, straight to the point, most helpful books of this nature that I have ever seen, and I am thrilled to have this book on our bookshelf.They covered pretty much everything in this book, from not answering the phone, to not answering the door without permission, even internet safety! Another awesome addition is that they point out a few different scenarios of strangers in cars. If a stranger asks you to help find a lost pet, offers candy, and what to do if a stranger tries to pull you inside the car?Today is much more scary for children, or maybe I guess for us parents, then it was back when I was growing up. For one, we didn't have the internet, and I personally believe people as a whole have gotten a little more dangerous. Maybe this is contributed to a bigger population? I'm not sure, but I do know that I am certainly more cautious with everything, more so then when I was growing up.This book sparks some very good discussions with your children and reinforces what you have been trying to say several times over. It is always a plus to have a book like this, no matter where you are, how wonderful your neighborhood is, child abductions can happen anywhere.The illustrations in this book are also very kid friendly, nothing to scary and they cut to the point as well.I know my kids enjoyed the pictures and also had a lot to add to each page and incident. The emergency when you are home alone was another perfect example of why this book is a must have! When explaining different situations to your children, you may tend to leave something out, whether it is uncomfortable to talk about or simply because you forgot. (Another reason you have to get this book!)I would recommend this book to teachers, Sunday School teachers, day cares, preschools, libraries, and parents and grandparents. It would also be a great book to have for a child care worker, and even a doctor's office.The authors also have a very informative website, which they update on a regular basis, and offer much more valuable and important advice and tips to use in your families to live a safer and much happier life.All in all, I am really an overprotective mom, we have to be nowadays, and I am more then impressed with what this book has to offer and how it has helped our own family!Oh, I almost forgot to add that this book mentions a code word, to use which is something I actually never thought of! I loved this idea and there is even a section to write this code word in the book! This is a very essential tool when you may be in need of sending a relative or friend to pick your children up in case of emergency, and a simple code word will be easy for your children to remember!!

As a parent concerned with how to most effectively teach my child about the dangers that strangers pose, the My "What If Book" is the Perfect tool!! The books covers all the primary situations that I worry about as a parent and the vivid illustrations paint a picture that my child can really relate to. I feel that between the great discussions this book prompts, along with the illustrations, which while child friendly, still paint a picture that will really stay in your child's mind, that the book is a Must Have!! Although I have purchased other books that teach about the dangers that strangers pose, this is the only one my son has ever truly related to and really taken an interest in, which means he is much more likely to remember what to do if placed in a potentially dangerous situation. Also, the website the authors have on child abduction is another very informative tool!

This is a great book for children to learn about what to do in situations involving strangers. The illustrations are awesome and kids will really enjoy it. I highly recommend it to all parents!

It was the book I needed for my class, but the material is so dry it is incredible. I definitely learned quite a few useful tricks though.

Really learned a lot from this during my college course, I'd recommend it to anyone that wants to learn on their own at home if you've got the cash to buy it but renting worked fine for me.

This ebook, when I purchased the E-rental for this book it was missing the pages for the Microsoft Module (AC21 - AC193). I had to rent a second book for MS Access to finish my class. Very frustrating.

A must buy for Captain Underpants lovers! My son loves all the different books from Dav Pilkey so when I saw this, I knew he would love it. My son LIVES for these books. I know it's not the best example of a book that enriches a child life or anything, but it did get my son interested in books and reading. That was the most important thing to my husband and I. He gets so excited every time a new on arrives!I think they've read 7 or 8 of the books so far. They read them together each night before bed, so we all kind of have a special love for these books, I think we always will.The stories are goofy and funny, they don't have valuable lessons really, they are just fun and goofy and good.

About the Author

Éric Vuillard is a writer and filmmaker born in Lyon in 1968 who has written nine award-winning books, including Conquistadors (winner of the 2010 Prix Ignatius J. Reilly), and La bataille d’Occident and Congo (both of which received the 2012 Prix Franz-Hessel and the 2013 Prix Valery-Larbaud). He won the 2017 Prix Goncourt, France’s most prestigious literary prize, for L’Ordre du Jour. His most recent book, Sorrow of the Earth, was his first published in English; The Order of the Day is his second. He lives in Rennes, France.   Mark Polizzotti has translated more than fifty books from the French, including works by Gustave Flaubert, Patrick Modiano, Marguerite Duras, André Breton, and Raymond Roussel. A Chevalier of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and the recipient of a 2016 American Academy of Arts & Letters Award for Literature, he is the author of eleven books. He directs the publications program at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

French author Eric Vuillard has written a very short book - if it was fiction, you'd call it a novella - about Nazi Germany. "The Order of the Day" begins and ends with short chapters about the major German industrialists of the 1930's and how they threw their support to Adolf Hitler and his Nazi Party. There were no clean hands among the Thyssens, the Krupps, or the other armament merchants who made nothing but money in Germany from 1933 to 1945. Money made using the free labor from concentration inmates, most of whom were literally worked to death.The middle part of the book is devoted to the machinations behind the German takeover of Austria in March, 1938. This included both political and armed threats directed at the existing Austrian government by the Germans and by the Austrian Nazi party. Vuillard gives interesting details about the German soldiers and dignitaries - including Adolf Hitler, returning to a city that he felt had rejected him in 1908.My problem with Eric Vuillard's book is that I felt that he wrote the book at a sort of emotional remove. His writing seemed to hover above the events and the people. It's a tough concept to try to explain in a book review and thankfully I don't feel that way about many books. I don't know know if this was in Vuillard's original writing or was the result of the book being translated from French to English.I can advise you to read Eric Vuillard's book if the topic interests you. But you might find yourself looking at the events from above.

A short book, but long on thought. This is a brilliantly written account by a French author of the take over of a welcoming Austria by Hitler's Germany and the complicity of still existing and thriving corporations in this crime.Having a prior understanding of the history of the era, while helpful, is not essential.The book has no chapter notes, so one relies simply on the accuracy of the author. This, to me, seems justified after reading this poetic history of a particularly dark episode of time.

The Order of the Day is a small volume which can be easily read in one sitting. The author is Eric Vuillard who is a French man. As a longtime student of World War II and Nazi Germany I enjoyed the book for its excellent and impressionistic literary style. In its few pages we see how mediocre corporate giants were swept into the cobweb of crime that was the notorious Third Reich. These moguls supported the Nazis with big checks and dull minds as they led their beloved Fatherland into the maw of the monster Hitler. Hitler's abuse of the Austrian chancellor is a tour de force of descriptive writing as Austria came under the hegemony of the evil regime in Berlin. The only problem I had with the book was that it was too short! I hope the author continues to write about the Third Reich and applaud him for his excellent writing skills.

To me this book is extraordinary. The literary style is remarkable. I loved this book. The historically accurate narrative borders on the lyrical. I wish the book was longer and I hope the author puts his considerable literary skills to further writings on the topic of WW2.

Vuillard's intricate scenarios paint a shameful portrait of big business complicit in Nazi Germany's war machine. Once you learn these truths you'll always carry them.

About 70% of this book is filled with irrelevant asides. I have less understanding now of what happened when Germany annexed Austria than I had before I read this book. More a series of off topic ruminations than a history. Avoid this at all costs.

Vuillard, author and filmmaker, dramatizes the Anschluss (Spring, 1938), filling his short book with anger and thinly veiled derision. Setting the scene, early in the book, with his characterization of the Hitler Schuschnigg meeting in Berchtesgaden, Vuillard queries “[w]hat was he [the Austrian chancellor] doing in this hornet’s nest?” All but captive and intimidated, Schuschnigg capitulated in the face of Nazi threat, contending he was coerced into the agreement to make Austria a German state. He is “easy pickings” for Vuillard who excoriates him, calling him a “pinhead,” ignoring the immense pressure on him and Austria and deriding his imprisonment once he stepped down. What follows after is more of the same; fiction masquerading as history. Vuillard’s book is possessed of the shallowness of the modern trend towards cinematic history, fueled by palpable anger, slim on details and devoid of historiographic scholarship.

I thought I was buying a novelistic interpretation of the annexation of Austria, 1938. What I received instead was a jejune political diatribe on the human condition, democracy, capitalism etc. One star beyond one for decent writing skills even in translation but the joke wears thin fast even in a book this short. Sad really.

Linux Kernel Networking is a sealed garden: information in the Internet is scarce, inconsistent and mostly outdated, the code itself is terse and barely commented. Therefore this work was an excellent starting point for everybody who was supposed to poke into Linux Kernel Networking subsystem code. Once it was but not anymore: some parts of the book are so outdated that are almost useless. For example, routing in Linux Kernel was gradually reworked somewhere in transition to kernel 3.x (we're at 4.x now in 2016), so the description of routing mechanisms is irrelevant...Bottom line: Second edition... please... If updated I personally will use it as a textbook for advanced networking university course

Functions from the Linux source are explained in detail. Packet reception and transmission by network adapters is explained in detail. There are also excellent detailed diagrams that accompany the text. When you combine the text and diagrams with the actual Linux source, you will have everything you need to accomplish your goals.I used this book to write and modify device drivers for real and virtual network adapters, including the bridge and bond drivers. I used this book to write user mode code to queue and filter packets for dedicated network devices.This book has everything you need to write networking code for Linux.

If you are looking for a professional reference on how to develop an IP stack, develop fast path solutions for next generation networking products or just want to learn more about the implementation of the Linux TCP/IP stack then this book is for you. If you also want to learn a bit more about networking in general then this book definitely is for you. However if you're new to the subject then this book might be a bit heavy and if you're looking for user space (BSD sockets) termination and higher level application development then this book is not for you. It covers the subject very well and goes through all the different layers of he IP stack, highly recommended, surprisingly easy to read and interesting. If a new edition comes out I'll buy it on the spot. Not that I'm missing anything but I'm sure things have happened in the last 5 years.

Extreme, and I do mean extreme, detail on the networking stack in Linux. He shows you source code, details each and every field of structures, and discusses in great detail every component involved in networking. Some of it gets tedious, but if you really want to understand what's going on (I did), this book will explain it.

If you already have knowledge about how computer networks work in general & want to know how those networking concepts are actually designed & implemented in an operating system, this book is a must. This Book is a smooth read & goes step by step.First it tells you how a NIC registers itself with the kernel. Then it describes an high-level introduction of how device drivers drive the device. Then it describes the interface between the kernel and the device drivers. It also discusses bridging & routing concepts.If you want to delve into the linux networking code of the kernel or if you are actually looking to modify a part of the networking code, this book is a must read.This book doesn't cover the transport layer though.! You have to refer to other sources to knit all the pieces of the puzzle together.!

Still accurate as of September 2017. Well written and rather exhaustive. Good book to have on your shelves.

I have read a number of books on the TCP/IP protocols and their implementations; both the original Berkeley (BSD) Unix TCP/IP stack and the Linux TCP/IP stack. I must say that this is the best of all of them. This book makes the subject very approachable for the newcomer to network protocol software but the explanations are detailed enough to satisfy an old dog like me. Benvenuti's writing style is clear and very readable. He liberally provides diagrams to illustrate the concepts he is discussing.My only fault with the book is that the transport layer protocols (UDP and TCP) are not covered. Benvenuti provides a list of important areas of the networking software that are not covered in the book but gives other references for most of these. I hope that he is working on a volume 2 to cover these areas.I would sum up by saying that if you want to learn about the Linux networking software or network protocol software in general, start with this book. This book will give you the background to understand other, less well written books that cover the remaining networking software topics.

Delivery was fast.The book was in new condition.Unfortunately, one corner of the books was damaged, maybe due to the package was not robust enough.
