As we all suffer from sitting, loss of full range of motion and movement is lost.This book teaches you about movement again, not just for sports (which is primarily why I got the book) but for life.Great information and teaching.

i am a user since 2007, when i first met the newly accredited DPT, Kelly Starrett. His ideas and ability to communicate to people at that time were yet to discovered. BUT even at that time, his understanding of a lecture given on the shoulder and how it works gave everyone in the room the ability to understand how it works, and what happens when it doesn’t. This is quite important for a book about water sports, as being a waterman you require the shoulder to be the catalyst of importance w/ regards to joints. Kelly has spent time in the water as well, the dude does one of the most obscure and incredibly demanding things anyone could and has put that to the test via a transition to long distance paddle sports like the Molokai. This is a must if you are in the water or just like to understand how the body moves.

As a life long waterman, I have had my fair share of injuries, broken back, torn labrum, chronic low pack pain to name a few. Kelly's tools and techniques outlined in this book have allowed me to enjoy surfing and paddling again without pain. As the owner of Sea Trek, a Sea Kayak and Stand Up Paddling center in Sausalito, Ca, my livelihood depends on my ability to stay healthy and injury free. I use the routines outlined in this book daily to maintain proper mobility and strength so that I can play and work hard. The interviews from world class water sport athletes are a great addition to the book. If you enjoy water sports then his book is for you and worth every penny.

I’ve watched Dr. Kelly develop into one of the premier movement gurus on the planet. His understanding of the human movement systems and how to harness them is groundbreaking and continues to push the science. This book aims to break that knowledge down into usable information for any waterman. It also comes from his practical experience paddling for the US Canoe and Kayak Team in whitewater slalom across the rivers of North America plus experience paddling ocean events such ad the Molokai Hoe. I started kayaking 40 years ago when I was a young teenager, and whitewater sports were my profession for 25 years. It never occurred to me that sitting in a boat would one day become too painful to endure, and that I would have to abandon my first and greatest love. With the tools that Kelly generously shares in this book I can continue to paddle. In addition to the practical steps to pain-free paddling that he offers I loved the pictures and the paddler profiles at the end of the book. Kelly, well done!

Dr Starrett and the insights within his book are the only reason I've been able to spend my life kayaking and competing on rivers around the world. His knowledge and guidance have kept me injury free, paddling at peak performance, and extended my paddling life by years. Whether you're a weekend warrior or a pro, this book is for you, and not having it will only mean you're on-water experience is a small percentage of what it could be. The OBG Classics edition published September 11, 2017, claims to be "the new translation." But IF it is somehow new -- and, by the way, no translator is identified -- what exactly has been translated? What is new about it? It is still written in the difficult-to-understand Middle English Chaucer used, and apart from spelling (or misspelling?) "his" as "hise" in line-1 [see NOTE at end] and throwing in some extra commas, this is pretty much the standard version. It is handsomely formatted and has an active TOC, but no introduction, no clarifications of archaic words, nothing but the seemingly original Middle English text. Calling itself "the new translation" strongly suggests this has been translated into easier-to-understand Modern English, but such is not the case here. Chaucer certainly rates 5-stars, but I have deducted one for the misrepresentation.FYI: An excellent Modern English version will be found in the Kindle Store for $.99 by A. S. Kline.NOTE: The first line normally reads: "Whan that Aprill with his shoures soote...." The words "shoures" and "soote" are each two syllables in Middle English pronunciation; thus the entire line rightly has the number of accented syllables Chaucer intended. If "his" (a one-syllable word) were improperly changed to "hise" (turning it into a two-syllable word, pronounced his-uh) -- as is done here -- that adds an unintended and, therefore, unacceptable extra syllable. I have to assume this is merely a typo; but how many other such errors are contained herein?

If you are going to read The Canterbury Tales, this is the way to go. The Middle-English may seem intimidating at first, but it is easier than one might think to sound out and understand. Of course, the annotation helps quite a bit too. These tales and their frame perfectly capture medieval life with it's lively characters and various settings. Ranging from poetic diversions, to dramatic, to adventures, all the the way to gruesome fables, and plenty of very funny (and memorable) bawdy humor. This earthy group of classic stories has something for everyone. The modern translation is also worth having as a companion, but this fine paperback is the one for authenticity.

Let's get this clear at the start: This is a review of Jill Mann's edition of the Canterbury Tales in its Kindle version. (It's a shame that Amazon can't distinguish between different editions of the classics when posting reviews! -- hint!) About the Tales themselves, I'll say only that they are both a classic and a blast, and if you can handle the Middle English, you have to read them in that language. Jill Mann's editorial work is smart and thorough, too. The print edition is a bargain at the price -- again, if you're OK reading Middle English. The Kindle edition, though was a little clumsy to use -- though, to be fair, I don't see how all the glosses and notes could have been presented better in a e-book. Wait, yes I can. The glosses on individual words and expressions are easy to find; the more extensive notes, which are very valuable, are not. It shouldn't have been hard to add a marginal symbol to reference a Note. Hence it's only four stars, not five. But it may well be the best e-book version on the market.

Here is a brief synopsis.At the Tabard Inn, a tavern in Southwark, near London, the narrator joins a company of twenty-nine pilgrims. The pilgrims, like the narrator, are traveling to the shrine of the martyr Saint Thomas Becket in Canterbury. The narrator gives a descriptive account of twenty-seven of these pilgrims, including a Knight, Squire, Yeoman, Prioress, Monk, Friar, Merchant, Clerk, Man of Law, Franklin, Haberdasher, Carpenter, Weaver, Dyer, Tapestry-Weaver, Cook, Shipman, Physician, Wife, Parson, Plowman, Miller, Manciple, Reeve, Summoner, Pardoner, and Host. (He does not describe the Second Nun or the Nun’s Priest, although both characters appear later in the book.) The Host, whose name, we find out in the Prologue to the Cook’s Tale, is Harry Bailey, suggests that the group ride together and entertain one another with stories. He decides that each pilgrim will tell two stories on the way to Canterbury and two on the way back. Whomever he judges to be the best storyteller will receive a meal at Bailey’s tavern, courtesy of the other pilgrims.I won't go into detail about all the tales that are told except to say that I found them witty, entertaining, and thoughtful.

A neat tying up of Jim Gordon's run as Batman for Gotham. Scott Snyder did a great job with Jim Gordon, Bruce Wayne, Alfred, and SPOILER Joker's short appearance SPOILER. However, Bloom as a villain, although powerful and terrifying, is rather shallow as a character as his powers seem undefined. I really liked the main story. Characters arcs get completed. Jim Gordon, Bruce Wayne, Alfred, Jules, but Bloom and the other Robin seem unfinished. One of the better volumes in this Batman run. I recommend it.

This volume completes Scott Snyder's run as the main writer for the New 52 Batman series. I really liked it. Mr. Bloom is a pretty brutal villain. Jim Gordon does a fine job filling in as Batman while Bruce Wayne frollicks around with his amnesia. The end battle certainly has its epic moments. The only thing that I'm a little sad about is that this collection doesn't include Batman #51.This hard back collects Batman #46-50 and what is labeled as "A short story from Detective Comics #27" which is a short one-shot story that dabbles in pseudo time travel stuff.Although the main story concludes in #50, #51 gives a little more closure, it's not essential to the main story arc but it adds so much more to the ending of Snyder's Batman run. Even with DC Rebirth going on, i've been wanting to put my teeth into this volume for a while so that I could finally wrap up Scott Snyder's run on Batman before I moved onto the next phase of the Dark Knight. I was fairly critical of the previous volumehttps://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/RMUUISVYAQO97/ref=cm_cr_getr_d_rvw_ttl?ie=UTF8&ASIN=1401266304which really came down to the fact that I felt as if it should have been longer. This volume fixes that. Place volumes 8 and 9 together in one book and you have a great story. The "Superheavy" arc as a whole is one of the best Snyder wrote in my opinion. I've seen a few people say that it had a lackluster finale, but I really didn't feel that way at all while reading it. The biggest point of contention for the arc going in is that fact that Batman is played not by Bruce Wayne or Dick Grayson, or even Terry McGinnis. It's Jim Gordon spending half of his time in a Batsuit that looks like some kind of robotic bunny. Give credit where its due though, it was certainly a new idea in a franchise that's been around for over 60 years. I myself didn't have much interest in it at first, but as I read volume 8 and as I was finishing up volume 9 I found myself really enjoying seeing Jim placed in this situation, having to stand up and not be the hero for Gotham City during the day, but the hero for the city at night. This is honestly the most interesting that Jim Gordon as a character has been in years now and its made even better because you've still got Bruce Wayne right alongside him, but its not the Bruce Wayne we know. As Alfred says, it's more like the real Bruce Wayne, the man that a young boy might have grown up to become had he never seen his parents gunned down in that alleyway one fateful night after a movie. So, not only do you get to contrast Jim Gordon between Old Bruce, you get to contrast Old Bruce with New Bruce, and you see the events unfold that eventually drive Bruce to once again become Batman. I particularly enjoyed how him deciding to do so was portrayed as both tragic and heroic, while at the same time not necessarily undermining Jim's time as Batman and what he was doing. Is Jim the equal of Bruce? Of course not, but he gives it his all and still manages to be just as integral to saving the day as Bruce is."But anyone could be who you are now! The one you were before, that guy, no one could be but you!"Numerous writers attempt to put their own spin on the Batman concept, to say something profound about the character that they believe to be unequivocally true. Snyder is no different and this is his statement in a nutshell. The core of this arc is about how no one can be Batman except for Bruce. Personally, I think that's bull, but I admire the way that Snyder goes about saying it and I think its well written. You really see this idea argued in-depth during the "Superheavy" arc by Jim, Duke Thomas, and a number of other people. The pinnacle of it is probably the machine that Bruce uses to restore his memories of being Batman, which is probably as comic book silly as you can possibly get. A machine imprinting random bodies/people with Batman's memories and skills so that there could not only always be a Batman, but so that there could always be a Bruce Wayne watching over Gotham City? Come on now lol I found that to be dumb, but like I said it wasn't badly written and it does say something about Bruce's dedication to the city and the idea that there must always be a Batman. Snyder even hints at tying the Joker into it as a constant presence in Batman's life.Speaking of the Joker, i've also been critical of how he continued using him as the major villain in different story arcs, so I liked how for the finale we got Bloom. Bloom really is the perfect counter to Snyder's Batman. Batman is someone that only Bruce can truly be, but anyone can be Bloom, which is why we never learn Bloom's real identity and Bloom's appearance and powers are unique and creepy in a way that draws the reader further into the story. You want to see more of him and hear more about what his plans are, but I also don't think he could ever work in another story after this one. Similar to Bane for Knightfall, this is probably going to be the best use of the character you ever get, the story that he was specifically created for. Everything that comes after is just going to fall short.There's another volume after this one, which i've already purchased, but it seems to me that you could probably skip it if you wanted to. By the end of this volume Bruce is Batman again, Jim is Commisioner, and everything is pretty much the same as it was before Snyder started, with a few things being altered, such as the Batsuit. Similar to Grant Morrison (And Snyder's miracle machine actually reminds me of a similar idea that showed up during Morrison's run) Snyder basically ends things by saying that the adventures of Batman will always continue, just under the pen of another writer. I could say more I guess, about how great the artwork continues to be, about the one shot that shows one of the future Batmen being "born" due to Bruce's machine, about Blooms seeds and the appearance of the Joker, but i'll leave that for future readers to discover on their own. Suffice to say that this is a great volume to read and have and a solid ending to Scott Snyder's Batman run. Overall, i'd say that this is probably my second favorite arc he wrote, right after Zero Year.

The villain, along with the artwork, make this story worth reading. It's from the days when Gordon on the mantle of Batman...which, strangely enough, did happen. Mr. Bloom makes a fearful bad guy and Scott Snyder writes really, really well.

Incredible. This was just as intense, esoteric, and horrific as I was expecting, from Mr. Bloom's path of Doom to the secret machine that saves Bruce, I believe it is an adequate (re)addition to the Batman Mythos as well as a fine turnover to the new DC Rebirth. I'm really glad they included the "27" story of the secret to the reality of "Batman" at the end. -MIKE EYE

Bloom is a fine addition to the Scott Snyder Batman stories. Not as strong as Endgame or other previous works, but still great.

I have loved the previous 8 volumes, and this volume might be the one one I enjoyed the most. Mr. Bloom is a great character, very creepy. Amazing art, exceptional story.

Great closer for the new 52 run. Makes me want to re-read the entire story again. Only thing that disappointed me was Bloom. I wanted a more developed villain but instead I got more developed Jim Gordon, I'm ok with that. Awesome read though.
